We had so much fun on Sunday at the Whio Whānau Fun Day that we had to take a couple of days off to recover, but we knew you'd want to see this again!
Two hundred rubber duckies took to the Waihukahuka stream at
Tongariro National Trout Centre
to race it out for glory. Ducks were sponsored by our visitors for a gold coin donation, all in for the chance to win a rafting trip to see whio in the wild with
Tongariro River Rafting
. But there could be only one winner. Watch below to see how it went!Money raised from this activity goes to the Central North Island Blue Duck Trust, who manage a contestable fund providing support to community groups that work to protect whio. To find out more (or donate more!) please visit englefield.co.nz and click the blue duck to the right of the screen.
Ps. you can hear
Taupo Trout Fishery
rangers monitoring and catching the ducks - we're pretty sure that isn't in their normal job description but we appreciate the help
