Summer Holidays

Our summer holiday kids fishing program kicked off on boxing day with families from all over the country stopping in to the Troutcentre.  The first week of fishing has seen record numbers of children catching trout with some fish coming out of the pond at around 1.7kg.  This year we had a few firsts with the largest number of trout in the pond at the beginning of summer at around 3000 and the biggest kids fishing team to assist with higher than usual visitor numbers and the ability to book and pay online.

This is a unique NZ experience where kids under the age of 18 can come and catch a rainbow trout and get it filleted and smoked ready to eat..the freshest trout you will get to taste smoked in manuka chips with brown sugar, honey and lemon pepper to give it a delicious taste.

While we attempt to give you a booking time, it is an estimated or approximate timeframe as it all depends on how fast the fish are biting.  This can be anywhere from 5 mins to 50 mins, which dramatically affects the timings.  We strongly advise you allow 2 - 2.5 hours because if you are in a hurry, this may not be the right event for you.  Fishing times vary from day to day and hour to hour, however our staff are here to make your visit as enjoyable as possible.

We also have a lower age limit of 5 due to the health and safety of your child.  This is fly fishing and an experienced instructor will assist your child and will stay with them until they catch a trout. Children under 5 struggle to hold a flyrod and present a higher risk of losing balance and falling into the pond. If your child is under 5 then the angler reserves the right to refuse your child and no refunds will be given. The responsibility is up you to ensure your child is between 5 and 16.

We are looking forward to a great kids Fishing season these summer holidays. this event is held rain or shine.  The Troutcentre in partnership with the Department of Conservation fisheries has been running kids fishing for the last 35 years and has seen thousands of children come through the centre and enjoy this experience.

We look forward to seeing you soon.
